Retiring reflections

Spiritual Wisdom for Successful Retirement: Living ForwardSpiritual Wisdom for Successful Retirement: Living Forward
C W Brister, (The Haworth Press) 2006, xxii + 158pp, pbk, $16.95

Few of us plan for our retirement.  As we age gradually and live longer we would do well to consider the bio-psycho-social-spiritual dimensions of the later parts of our life.

This book addresses the changing events and transitions of retirement, focussing on our need to adapt in the light of real and symbolic losses of identity, finance, living arrangements and physical limitations.

The text is grounded in experience and offers studied theological reflection.  Individuals at any stage of their living would benefit from reading it but especially those preparing for retirement.  Brister offers practical theology at its best – reflective, challenging, wise, enthused and focussed on the lived experience of older people.
